UNDERSTANDING YOUR DESIGNATION
What NNCP and RNT actually mean
CANNP offers two professional designations recognized by Canadian insurers, employers, and the public. Both signal clinical training, ethical practice, and ongoing professional development.

Natural Nutrition Clinical Practitioner
FOUNDATIONAL DESIGNATION
The NNCP designation indicates that you are educated in natural or holistic nutrition, conducting a professional practice, and committed to continuing development. It comes with full member benefits and the right to use the NNCP letters.
WHAT IT REQUIRES
Graduation from a CANNP-recognized program (or individual evaluation)
Proof of professional liability insurance (E&O)
Annual membership renewal and ongoing upgrading hours
Adherence to the CANNP Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice

Registered Nutritional Therapist
ADVANCED DESIGNATION
The RNT title reflects a professional with at least three years of experience, a clear practice focus, and demonstrated depth of knowledge through CANNP’s qualification process.
WHAT IT REQUIRES
Current NNCP designation and CANNP membership in good standing
Up-to-date resume and a 500-word letter on business goals and philosophy
One Case Study Summary (500-1000 words)
One-time designation fee of $75
Practitioners with 5+ years of experience may contact CANNP directly for a simplified process.
The titles “Registered Nutritionist” and “Nutritionist” are reserved by law in some provinces
These titles are reserved for members of the College of Dietitians of Alberta. CANNP designations do not use these reserved terms. While “Nutritional Therapist” does not incorporate any of the restricted elements, members in regulated provinces should consult locally to ensure their professional title and marketing materials — even those provided by CANNP — comply with all applicable laws.
About E&O Insurance
All practising NNCPs and RNTs must carry Errors and Omissions insurance. CANNP has negotiated competitive rates with two trusted Canadian providers. You can begin your application before insurance is finalized — both can be in process simultaneously.
Full coverage details, application forms, and member discount codes are available in the Member Hub after you apply.

* Your continuing education record — CANNP requires 30 hours of upgrading between renewals, from any source that’s added to your knowledge or strengthened your practice: courses, books, podcasts, webinars, seminars, or mentoring
* Proof of insurance — if you’re with one of our negotiated insurance partners, we’re notified automatically; otherwise, a copy of your current policy is required
